APAC Alabama interns shared the results of their summer work during the 2026 CRH Midsouth Intern Presentations on Aug. 4 in Flowood, Mississippi. The event gave interns from APAC Alabama, APAC Mississippi/Tennessee and Barriere Construction a chance to present ideas developed through their work with company teams over the summer.

The program began Monday evening with a social hour and dinner, giving interns and company leaders an opportunity to connect before the presentations the following morning.

The morning began with a safety minute from Barriere Safety Intern Madelyn Toole, followed by opening remarks from Paul Albrecht, Director of Training and Development. An “Internship to Industry” panel divided the two presentation sessions.

This year’s APAC Alabama presentations focused on two areas with direct operational impact: improving project handoffs and reducing the risk of electrical failures:

• Evan Taylor, an operations management student at the University of Alabama, developed a Project Execution Guide to streamline project handoffs and give incoming leaders quick access to key project information.
• Matthew Hetzman, a University of Alabama student also majoring in operations management, evaluated a phase monitoring system designed to reduce equipment damage, downtime and costs.

APAC Mississippi/Tennessee interns Ayden Thompson, Rylan Outlaw, Laine Dupuis and Cal Strait also presented, covering sand pump performance, asphalt loadout technology, stripping operations and inventory accuracy.

Barriere Construction interns Adrian Yocupicio-Romero, Bailey Anderson, Rhett Bordelon, Anthony Fernandez, Tyler Clark, Brayden Perrin and Madelyn Toole shared projects on fuel allocation, idle-time reduction, fleet maintenance, equipment attachments, employee training and safety.

For Taylor and Hetzman, the event capped a summer spent applying classroom knowledge to opportunities for improvement across APAC Alabama’s field and plant operations. Their presentations gave them an opportunity to explain their recommendations, answer questions and see how their work could also fit into our sister companies.
