Tim Mullendore

President

Tim holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Jacksonville State University and is a graduate of the University of Indiana Executive Development Program. In his 47-year career, he has worked on several big projects in Virginia, Georgia and Alabama. Among Tim’s most noteworthy projects are Talladega Superspeedway, Birmingham International Airport and extensive projects on the interstate system in Alabama, as well as Richmond International Airport, Richmond Raceway and interstate projects along I-95 in Virginia. He served two terms as Alabama’s NAPA State Director and is a former president and current vice president of the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association. Tim is a past president of the Alabama Road Builders Association and currently serves on its board of directors.

Bret Thornton

Executive Vice President

Bret Thornton has been with the company for almost 20 years. Having begun his construction career as a laborer in 1996, he joined APAC-Alabama as General Superintendent in 2005 and was promoted to Area Manager in 2008. Bret honed his leadership skills over the next decade and became Vice President of Construction in 2019 and Executive Vice President in 2022. He holds an associate’s degree from Wallace State Community College and earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology management from Jacksonville State University. Bret is a board member and the executive committee secretary for the Alabama Road Builders Association.

Mike Fielding

Vice President of Materials

Mike attended Coosa County High School and Troy University in Montgomery, Alabama. He holds certifications in Asphalt-Aggregates Technology with Alabama Department of Transportation for quality management and design. With APAC-Alabama since 1987, in his current role as Vice President of Materials, Mike developed a performance graded tack and a high-performance cold mix to help increase the volume of liquid asphalt used at APAC’s liquid asphalt terminal. He is on the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association’s quality committee and the Alabama Road Builders aggregate committee.

Kurt Olis

Controller

Kurt is a certified public accountant licensed with the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy. He holds a BSBA in accounting from Auburn University Harbert College of Business and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Collat School of Business. Kurt previously worked as an external auditor for the public accounting firm, Warren Averett, LLC., and as the Accounting Manager for E.A. Renfroe & Company before joining APAC-Alabama as Controller in 2017.

Charlie Cook

Area Manager, Montgomery

Since joining APAC-Alabama in 1999, Charlie has worked on several projects — from Maxwell Airforce Base and Dannelly Field Airport to the Montgomery Outer Loop and multiple projects along I-65 and I-85. He holds a management degree from Mississippi State University and has been APAC-Alabama’s Area Manager over the Montgomery and Andalusia Markets since 2011. Charlie has experience in sand and gravel mining management, construction management, quarry efficiencies, estimating, quality control, materials management and hot asphalt mix production management. In addition to serving as the local AGC president, Charlie was an Alabama Road Builders Association committee member. He has been a presenter at the Alabama Road Builders Association Conference and the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association Conference.

Glenn Phillips

Area Manager, Dothan

In a career that spans four decades, Glenn has held various management and leadership roles and worked on more than 3,000 commercial and government projects. His experience runs the gamut — from construction of airport runways and helicopter training stage fields to residential subdivisions, retail developments and highway projects. Glenn holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Auburn University and is a licensed professional engineer in Alabama and Florida. He is a member of the NSPE and Alabama State paving associations.

Greg Foreman

Asst. Area Manager, Dothan

In 2005, Greg joined the APAC-Alabama team as an Engineer in Training and then began moving up through the ranks. After working as a Superintendent/Project Manager he was promoted to Operations Manager, and now he is the Area Manager for Dothan. Greg has worked on multiple new construction four lane projects, including the New Brockton Bypass, a 16-mile project in Russell County, and various multi-lane capacity projects in Dothan including Ross Clark Circle projects and the Hwy. 84 expansion. Other projects include James Oates Park recreational baseball fields and the Rip Hewes Stadium renovations, along several private, state, county, city and airport projects. Greg holds a civil engineering degree from Auburn University and a Fundamentals of Engineering certification. He is a member of the local ASCE and AGC, and he won an AGC Top 40 Under 40 Award in 2021.

Ray Doss

Area Manager, Oxford

Ray worked summer jobs at APAC-Alabama while still a student at White Plains High School. After graduation in 1987, he joined the company full time on the engineering crew, swinging a sledgehammer. Within the first year, he became the instrument technician on the engineering crew, and after the second year he was leading the engineering crew. After 11 years — when the company’s focus began to shift away from the grading, concrete and civil engineering side of the business — Ray accepted a job as an estimator within the company. He worked as an estimator and project manager for the next 15 years before his 2006 promotion to his current role as Area Manager. The notable projects he has worked on during his 37 years with the company include the Alabama Welcome Center on I-20, several sections of US Highway 431 and three sections of the of the Bypass in Calhoun County.

Jeff Janeway

Area Manager, Birmingham

One of APAC-Alabama’s most senior employees, Jeff joined the company in 1986. Known for his reputation as a dependable and knowledgeable estimator and manager, Jeff has spent his career earning the respect of his colleagues and customers. Highlights of his extensive project portfolio include the Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant near Vance, Alabama, the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport and multiple Alabama Department of Transportation projects. He attended Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.

Scott Dye

Equipment Manager

Scott earned an associate’s degree in diesel and heavy equipment at the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College MacArthur Campus. He served in the Alabama Army National Guard for 10 years as a Self-propelled Field Artillery Systems Mechanic. During his 31 years working at CRH companies, including APAC-Alabama, Scott has held positions ranging from Shop Mechanic to Equipment Manager. He has worked on many notable projects including Gainesville International Airport and multiple jobs along I-65, I-85 and I-10.

Steve Horne

Aggregate Production Manager

After graduating from Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, GA, Steve began working in the mining industry in 1995, and later completed a management development course at the Georgia Construction Aggregate Association. Following previous positions at Florida Rock Industries and Vulcan Materials, he joined the CRH family in 2008, at APAC-Alabama’s quarry in Opelika. Today, Steve oversees multiple quarries.

Charlie Stephens

Senior Environmental Manager

An environmental professional with 27 years of experience in the construction, aggregate, and asphalt industries, Charlie got his start as an engineering co-op student with Alabama Power while working toward his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Auburn University. He went on to earn a master’s degree in civil engineering from University of Alabama at Huntsville and certifications to work as a Registered Environmental Manager, a Certified Environmental Professional and a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control. During his 14 years as an Environmental Manager with APAC-Alabama, Charlie has led several notable projects. His project achievements include reclaiming two granite quarry sites and one limestone quarry site back to fully functioning ecological systems that support native habitat. That’s approximately 360 acres of mining area reclaimed to natural habitat. Charlie serves on the CRH AMATs Environmental Best Practice Group and on the NSSGA and NAPA environmental committees. 

Mark Vann

Environmental Health and Safety Manager

In addition to his work on APAC-Alabama projects, Mark served as General Superintendent on the SawGrass Expressway while working for APAC Major Projects in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He studied at the University of Texas at Arlington to become certified as a Specialist in Safety and Health and a Certified Safety & Health Official (CSHO). The CSHO certification provides a solid and broad-based safety and health education in a curriculum of OSHA Training Institute courses. Mark moved to Waco, Texas, as a Project Manager and later became the Safety Professional. He subsequently relocated to Alabama as the Safety Manager. Mark graduated from Greenbrier High School in Greenbrier, Arkansas.

Cy Nicholson

Human Resources Manager, CRH

Cy is a SHRM Certified Professional, a credential issued by the Society for Human Resources Management, the world’s largest HR membership organization, to recognize individuals pursuing careers in human resources management. Cy attended Mississippi State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. Before joining APAC-Mississippi as a Human Resources Manager in 2016, he worked in other industries including government contracting and home health.

Chase Hockaday

Corporate Recruiter

Chase Hockaday has over a decade of experience as a recruiter and has spent time working on both the agency side and the corporate side. His role is pivotal to APAC-Alabama’s success as he is responsible for attracting qualified talent to work at the company. Chase also heads up offer letters and onboarding for new APAC-Alabama hires. A native of Haleyville, AL, Chase attended the University of Alabama.
